Job Description:
SUMMARYWe are currently seeking an Occupational Therapist II to
join our acute care pediatric team. This role will work at our
hospital. Shifts include casual weekday and weekend rotation 1 in
4. This role will typically treat patients' birth through 12 years
of age so experience with infants, and a developmental focus is
preferred. Areas of coverage for this role may include NICU, PICU
trauma and developmental needs.Purpose of the position: In
collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, provides therapeutic
services including evaluation, treatment, discharge planning and
education.This position is posted at the senior level and depending
on applicant pool, can down fill to a Level 1 Occupational
Therapist.RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms and documents comprehensive
occupational therapy evaluationsDevelops and documents patient care
plans to promote optimal function and safetyObserves, evaluates and
documents patient's progressParticipates in hospital rounds and
patient care conferencesEducates patients and caregivers on
therapeutic techniques, cares and treatmentsCompletes all
documentation and charges of services per departmental
standardsFunctions as a clinical instructor for occupational
therapy studentsDirects and supervises activities performed by the
OT aides consistent with their training and skill (patient
transfers, patient transport, preparation of patient and equipment
for treatment, selected treatment procedures, clerical duties, and
departmental maintenance)Properly applies and operates
rehabilitative equipmentDevelops and conducts occupational therapy
in-services for other staffOrients and mentors newly assigned
staffServes as a clinical resource for other staffParticipates in
program developmentRepresents the occupational therapy department
on committees and provides consultation to other departments and
agencies as assignedAssumes responsibilities of the supervisor as
assigned during the supervisor's absenceProvides work direction for
clerical staffAssists in monitoring the quality of occupational
therapy activities and servicesFunctions as a resource for
departmental policies and procedures*QUALIFICATIONS*Minimum
Qualifications:Graduation from an occupational therapy curriculum
accredited by the American Medical AssociationMinimum of 2 fulltime
years of experience (4,160 hours)Preferred Qualifications:Previous
clinical experience/rehabilitation in peds acuteCPR Certification2
year(s) of Pediatric Occupational TherapyExperience with birth to
age 12Developmental and Trauma peds focus areasCraniosacral
training or interest in pursuing this area of interventionCommitted
to helping children improve critical functions of daily living,
sensory integration, fine motor skills, visual perceptual skills,
and feedingPassion for peds and providing excellent care while
working with diverse patient
populationKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:Knowledge of
policies/procedures and practice standards; occupational therapy
theory, techniques, and treatment, physical therapy and orthopedic
equipment; counseling and educational techniques; bandaging and
wrapping techniquesIn mental health departments: includes group
dynamics, group facilitation, psychopathology, personality
development, counseling and educational techniques, communication
and social skills, sensory integration, stress management and
health maintenance, activity analysisAbility to perform
professional occupational therapy techniques and treatment;
calibrate and operate occupational therapy equipmentAbility to
provide work direction for ancillary personnelAbility to counsel
and instruct patients and families; ability to recognize and
document patient progressAbility to work cooperatively with other
members of the medical teamAbility to interact with individuals of
widely diverse lifestyles including ability to deal objectively
with individuals whose attitudes and behaviors differ from his/her
ownAbility to read and interpret written instructions, patient
charts, and physicians' notesAbility to interpret policies and
procedures in an advisory capacity
(educate)License/Certifications:Certified or eligible for the
National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
certification examination for Occupational Therapist, Registered.
