About the Job


The School of Dentistry seeks candidates for a full-time tenured or tenure-track, Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position to lead the Division of Prosthodontics. This position will report to the Chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences.This person must be an experienced Prosthodontist, who can lead the Division of Prosthodontics, with a dedication and commitment to providing an excellent didactic and clinical education for learners at all levels preparing them to provide quality care to patients. They must be able to work well with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students to provide a positive, humanistic, and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate must be able to develop and participate in research and scholarly activities, strengthen a dedicated and collaborative team to advance the mission of the school and division, and develop strategies for innovative and technology rich learning environments that advances the Prosthodontic education at the University of Minnesota for both pre-doctoral and advanced education learners. Manage the operation of the predoctoral and advanced education clinics within the Division of Prosthodontics including the oversight and management of clinic processes, policies and procedures, protocols, and common practices within the division clinicsManage and contribute to the didactic and clinical teaching for graduate and predoctoral studentsSupervise all direct-report faculty within the Division of ProsthodonticsFoster mentorship of faculty and students, as well as support of other mentoring relationships throughout the divisionParticipate in Department leadership meetings and initiativesCreate, promote, and encourage research opportunities within the Division of Prosthodontics as well as the development of research collaborations with other divisions and departmentsCreate and encourage a humanistic and inclusive environment that is conducive to collaboration and the sharing of school, division, and department resources among faculty and staff in the Division and the School of DentistryPromote an environment, through policy and practice, that strives to achieve diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being in the Division and the School of DentistryRecruit, retain and develop faculty and staff to ensure that the divisional and school goals and strategic priorities are achieved. Manage the operations of the Prosthodontic Laboratory technician and predoctoral and Advance Education Laboratory activities.Participate actively in School of Dentistry governance, including service on various committeesEnsure that Division faculty promote life-long learning by participation in the School of Dentistry's continuing dental education and/or external continuing education. Collaborate with faculty and staff in other departments and units to advance the school of dentistry strategic priorities and initiatives.
Qualifications


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
DDS, DMD or equivalent degreeCompletion of an advanced education training program in Prosthodontics accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) prior to start in the positionBoard Eligible by the American Board of ProsthodonticsMinnesota dental license or eligible for Minnesota dental license by start dateDocumented successful experience in service, research and teaching to meet tenure eligible requirementProven dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment Experience and knowledge in digital dentistryFive years or more of academic teaching experienceEvidence of being able to collaboratively manage teamsSuccessful experience working with a diverse patient base PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification: American Board of ProsthodonticsAdvanced Education: MS or PhD in Prosthodontics or an allied fieldPatient Care: Experience providing direct patient care and supervision of learners in academic clinic Leadership: Experience serving in a leadership roleTeaching: Demonstrated history of quality clinical and didactic teaching with pre-doctoral students and/or Prosthodontic residents or fellowsResearch Funding: History of obtaining funded research and Publication: Experience preparing, submitting, and publishing manuscripts in Prosthodontics or a related fieldGovernance: Experience serving on or leading organizational or institutional committees Mentorship Experience: Service as academic or research mentor to faculty and learners
About the Department


The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry is the state's only dental school and the only dental school in the northern tier of states between Wisconsin and the Pacific Northwest. We are a regional resource to five states for dental education, consulting services, patient treatment, and ongoing continuing dental education.We educate dentists, dental specialists, dental therapists, dental hygienists, dental educators and research-scientists. We offer advanced degree programs in seven ADA-recognized specialties: endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics and TMD and orofacial pain. We educate scholars in oral biology, dental hygiene and oral health for older adults. Dentists from other countries who wish to practice in the United States matriculate through our Program for Advanced Standing Students. Learners have the option to pursue a Masters in Public Health or a PhD alongside their DDS degree.We are the only dental hygiene program in the state associated with a dental school. Offering programs at the baccalaureate and master of science level, our integrated program prepares oral health professionals to collaborate from their first day in the profession.We became the first dental school in the nation to educate dental therapists in 2009. Dental therapists perform basic preventative services, drill and restore teeth for children and adults and remove primary teeth under the supervision of a licensed dentist. As of 2023, we have graduated 91 dental therapists from the program.Our work affects virtually every person in Minnesota. We educate approximately 73% of the state's practicing dentists, 68% of licensed dental therapists, and 49% of dental hygiene educators. Our researchers develop and test restorative materials used by dentists around the world. We provide critical oral health care with more than 100,000 patient visits in our campus clinics and more than 16,000 patient visits at outreach sites in underserved communities throughout the state.
