Job Summary
Join a mission-driven team in the Zoonotic Diseases Unit of the
Infectious Disease, Epidemiology, Prevention and Control (IDEPC)
Division and contribute to protecting, maintaining, and improving
the health of all Minnesotans. As a Zoonotic Diseases Unit (ZDU)
student worker, you will assist the State Public Health
Veterinarian and other ZDU epidemiologists with a wide variety of
surveillance programs for zoonotic diseases and the Unexplained
Critical Illnesses and Deaths (UNEX) surveillance program. The
zoonotic diseases include rabies, enteric pathogens from animals,
toxoplasmosis, tularemia, brucellosis, and other diseases, as well
as the fungal pathogens blastomycosis and histoplasmosis. The UNEX
program includes data entry and data management for unexplained
critical illnesses and deaths. This position will execute the
day-to-day components of these surveillance programs, including
telephone interviews of case-patients, data entry and management,
specimen collection, data analysis and participating in outbreak
investigations and other projects. Additionally, this position will
provide rabies consultation to the public and healthcare
providers.
Primary responsibilities include:
This position is hybrid in nature, which will require a majority of
the work to be completed in the St. Paul office, with limited
opportunities to telework.
This position is part-time and will work 20 hours per week. The
specific hours and days of work are flexible Monday through Friday
and will include occasional evening or weekend work.. This position
is anticipated to last up to two years or until the selected
candidate completes their educational program, whichever occurs
sooner.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of two years of post-secondary education
Student Worker Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as a
Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a
post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three
months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one
semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such
absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are
enrolled at a credit-granting institution, you must carry at least
six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit
granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class,
you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any
lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter
off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or
making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an
Educational Verification form prior to appointment.
